You can also keep reading to learn more about ways that you can take part in maintaining your tankless water heater, as well as the benefits of professional maintenance.
Homeowner Maintenance
First, let’s talk about the maintenance expectations for you as a homeowner. In between annual professional maintenance, you also need to complete some maintenance of your own. If you skip out on these maintenance tasks, your tankless water heater may not work as well or have as long of a lifespan as it would otherwise.
Your homeowner maintenance tasks include cleaning out both of the filters inside your tankless water heater. Your tankless water heater has a small water filter and a small air filter. It’s important to clean out each one since dirt and debris can get trapped and block airflow and water flow going into your tankless water heater. You may not think about airflow being important for heating water, but it’s a crucial factor in how your tankless water heater operates.
After all, your tankless water heater is heating water on demand instead of slowly heating it inside of a tank like a more traditional water heater does. If you’re uncomfortable with how to remove these filters, clean them, and then replace them, you can give our team a call. During a maintenance appointment, we can walk through the process with you so you feel confident doing it on your own each month.
It’s also important to pay attention to how your tankless water heater is operating. If you notice any signs of trouble, it’s important to schedule a service appointment sooner rather than later. For example, you may notice changes in water pressure for your hot water, water that’s not as hot as you expected, or unusual sounds when your tankless water heater is operating. All of these are reasons to call and schedule for service. Even if nothing is wrong, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Professional Maintenance
You should also schedule professional maintenance for your tankless water heater once per year. This appointment gives our team an opportunity to flush out the system. If you have hard water, the minerals in your water can build up inside your tankless water heater. Some of the particles are small enough to get through the water filter. Even though they are smaller than what you can see with your naked eye, over time they create a sediment that can impact heating ability and water pressure.
Our team can also take a look at all of the components and replace worn items or fix anything that needs to be addressed. It’s a great way to invest in your tankless water heater and make sure that it can work efficiently to provide hot water for your home with a long lifespan.
